alas, CLITfest is no longer happening in september!
we are very sorry for this. several collective members have left the country recently so we haven’t had the resources to make it all happen in time.
hopefully CLITfest will still happen later this year, perhaps december. we will let you all know as soon as we know what’s happening. keep checking this page and our blog http://www.facebook.com/l/;clitfestwellington.wordpress.com for updates.

Support clitfest and see some great films for only $5!
Monday 4 May 2009, 7pm at 128 Abel Smith St, Te Aro, Wellington City.
An Evergreen Island
The most beautiful and striking Pacific island survival images you will ever see on screen! Bougainvilleans closed one of the largest open pit mines in the world to save their island but then had to survive a 9 year complete economic blockade without any assistance from the outside world. This is the story of their courage, resourcefulness and vision as they re-invented technology, medicine, education, and sustainability from scratch. Absolutely inspiring!
Upfront
Three Palestinian women from different backgrounds share their stories.
Girls Rock!
What happens when girls are given a temporary reprieve from being sexualised, analysed and pressured to conform is truly moving and revolutionary…

Good workshops, good music, good times!!
CLITFEST (Combating Latent Inequality Together) is about self-knowledge, self-expression, and self-empowerment. Our aim is to create space outside the mainstream patriarchically approved self-expression. CLITFEST aims to stimulate conversation between people of all ages, abilities, ethnicities and all genders to encourage an awareness of the many levels of privilege and oppression. We aim to create an all inclusive community so that everyone can thrive.
Wellington CLITFEST is a non-profit, community based, women-centered DIY music and arts fest. It will be a weekend of music, workshops and discussions celebrating women in the music, arts and activist communities and addressing the strengths, and the potential, of our local scenes.
Even though there is no particular doctrine or set of rules surrounding the D.I.Y music and arts scene, we all have progressive views that actively combat sexism, racism, homophobia, and discrimination of any kind. We also believe that women have much to contribute to issues outside those deemed “women’s issues”, and that, on the flipside, everyone is affected by those under that classification.
WORKSHOPS: We will be facilitating workshops with topics such as self-defense, skateboarding, turntablism, drumming, supporting survivors of rape and abuse, women’s health care, break-dancing, belly dancing, racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.
We will also include workshops that help to further women’s interest in music and musicianship (basic music equipment/live sound, etc.).
